HAIRCUTS & STYILING

HAIR SALON

Almost 18 years ago I started my own business in Los Angeles.

I have a hair salon which, in just 450 sq. ft.  I designed to look and feel like a home.

When someone walks into my salon, they enter an atmosphere nothing at all like an ordinary salon.

I built everything, floors, walls, cabinets, myself. It was a wonderful and challenging experience.

My salon has 4 stations, 2 wash sinks, a manicure station, a facial room and a waiting room.

In the waiting area I have 2 dryers placed as part of the décor, a built in TV cabinet, and a show case window to display products of art. I designed the waiting area to be an ensemble of a sofa, and chairs. Under the sofa and chairs there is a trunk for the storage of tools and merchandise.  Because the salon is small, I don’t have much storage space.

At the work stations everyone has their own space to work along with a locker.   My station and the manicure station are divided by lockers.  This makes my own station more private, with a feel of independence from the others, yet still allows it to be quite open.   At the front desk, I have a cash register, retail products, a computer and a TV for the working area. Behind the retail products, there is a separate shampoo and coloring room. In the cabinets, all the chemical products are stored

and I also have a refrigerator, microwave and a coffee counter.

In the waiting room I have created a mosaic of tile from broken pieces of mirror.  This enhances the salon and gives the illusion of spaciousness and light.  The mirrors at each station are different styles and framed individually with tile.  I framed the window with aluminum matching the furniture of the salon.

The whole feel and style industrial, light, quite art deco.
